Sporting Equals is pleased to announce that it has received funding from The Peter Harrison Foundation to bring the Future Female Leader (FFL) programme to Birmingham!
The Peter Harrison Foundation is an independent grant-making foundation dedicated to empowering individuals with disadvantages to reach their full potential and create a lasting impact.
Sporting Equals will be working in partnership with The Peter Harrison Foundation to deliver Future Female Leaders, a programme designed for ethnically diverse women 16+ to empower them as leaders in their community. FFL provides a women’s only space to meet likeminded people, share challenges and fears whilst receiving workshops from influential women in the sector and a Kidztivity coaching qualification.
This year there will be twelve candidates on the programme from several Sporting Equals Associate Members including; BPM Sports, Continental Stars Table Tennis Club and Communities Engage and Thrive. There will be 6 touchpoints throughout the programme including sessions on leadership, empowerment, designing the delivery and barriers to engaging communities.
There is a great need for programmes such as Future Female Leaders which create pathways for ethnically diverse women and facilitates a safe space for them to share their lived experiences. Speaking about the programme one of the participants said. “When I look at my community, I don’t feel that people understand that sport is essential for mental health and encouragement, to challenge yourself further and further. I think in my community we are underrepresented; we don’t have coaches. I hope this programme will encourage me to be a better coach and gain confidence.”
We look forward to seeing the knock-on impact which this programme will have on the wider community because of the women gaining their coaching qualifications, we will be sharing their journeys over the coming months.
