The Peloton On Tour event, which Sporting Equals hosted on the 1st December with support from Basketball England, England Netball & NETU brought together a number of our friends, partners and Associate Members for a day filled with skills, drills, games and tactics. Held at The Regal & Jordan Court in London, this event was a unique experience featuring renowned athletes, coaches and sector partners.
The day began with an introduction from Arun Kang OBE, Chief Executive of Sporting Equals, outlining the partnership with Peloton and the positive benefits that sport and physical activity can have across all communities. Participants engaged in energising warm-up exercises and skill-building drills led by elite athletes and coaches form across netball and basketball. Netball was lead by Ziana Butt BEM (Saracens U23s and England Mixed Team) who said of the event “Thrilled to have been one of the Leads at the Peloton and Sporting Equals Netball and Basketball collaboration, which also provided the important opportunity to share experiences and the need for more visible role models.”, Tanvi Shah (BBC Asian Network) and Vicki Oyseola (England Senior International). With Basketball being run by Charles (England U14s Assistant Coach) & Carl Reid (Southwark Storm Coach).

Two incredible Sporting Equals Peloton ambassadors were at the event to act as cheer captains: Hannah & JJ, who were also joined by American instructor Alex, who had flown in for the Pelton On Tour festive celebrations. The morning was filled with fierce competition in the netball and basketball games with teams coming from groups including; Singh Saba Slough, Pulse Social, Cosmopolitan Roses and We Belong.
The attendees had a phenomenal time at the event and it was great to have the support of the wider sporting community.
“We are delighted to support Sporting Equals with its Peloton On Tour event that brings people together from different communities to enjoy sport and physical activity,” said Basketball England CEO Stewart Kellett.
“Although basketball is a highly accessible sport, people still face many barriers to getting involved. Events like today help elevate the voices and lived experiences of those who have had a hard time playing basketball, and other sports. Through a better understanding of what our community faces, we can help them to enjoy basketball more frequently and without obstacles.
“Part of that work comes in creating a managed network of 500 new community coaches aged 16 to 30 through the London Coaches Program with the NBA and the London Mayor’s Office. Coaches that are on the program, some of whom are here today, are building their life skills, coaching skills and employability, as well as showcasing the power of basketball to hundreds of thousands of young Londoners – dismantling barriers, growing the game and delivering great experiences.”

The Peloton On Tour event was a fun filled morning to celebrate our partnership with the global fitness brand. The event allowed those at all levels of sport to take part and enjoy the benefits of physical activity. We look forward to welcoming more individuals back to our future events and are very thankful for the support from the teams at Peloton, Basketball England, England Netball and NETU.
