WO Sports is a new Sporting Equals Associate Member, and an incredible organisation founded by Wale, a former professional coach at Fulham FC. WO Sports has been operating for many years and has received funding from council-level support and various stakeholders. Based across several London boroughs, with core delivery taking place in Waltham Forest, WO Sports reaches over 4,000 young people annually. The organisation offers a wide range of activities to support disadvantaged youth, including in-school delivery such as PPA cover and enrichment, summer sports tournaments, and holiday camps.
Before founding WO Sports, Wale played professional football and later transitioned into management. His goal was to provide children and young people with a second chance. He has worked with a diverse range of youth, including young offenders and asylum seekers.
Last year, WO sport received a royal visit from King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla in Waltham Forest highlighting the importance of initiatives that engage ethnically diverse communities.
This year, Wale organised Summer HAF Camp on behalf of Waltham Forest Council for Department for Education across two venues; Woodside Primary Academy and Parmiters Sports Ground Chingford. The camp was attended by over 130 children. The camp offered a wide range of activities to appeal to a broad demographic, including athletics, boxing, dance, arts, and painting, in addition to football. WO Sports also boasts an impressive talent pathway for young football players aspiring to enter the professional game, with two players currently in the Arsenal youth setup and another in the Tottenham Hotspur youth setup.
One of the organisation’s major achievements this year was their tournament, which saw over 4,000 young people and their parents participate. The event included accommodation at the University of Warwick and a tour of Coventry FC. We are proud to welcome WO Sports to our associate membership base and look forward to working with them.
